Meet Tancredi Biondi-Santi of Castello di Montepo

Join us Tuesday November 4 at 6:00 for an intimate gathering with the Tancredi Biondi-Santi. The family is best known of course for its founding of the Biondi-Santi estate in Brunello and for single-handedly inventing Brunello wine itself. Fewer know that Tancredi and his father Jacobo sold their Brunello estate in 2019 to focus on a different property: Castello di Montepo. 

One of the reasons that the family started Castello di Montepo was to be able to make wines worth drinking any time, not just jealously coveted in a cellar. “Wine is not an asset,” declares Tancredi Biondi Santi, the seventh generation of Italy’s storied Biondi Santi family. “If you purchase wine just for the value in 10 years, you’re just a broker, you’re not a wine lover.” A bold opinion, but one we appreciate from a winemaker with such a storied lineage.
