This is one of the most unique wines you'll encounter—a solera-aged rancio from Alta Alella's hillside vineyards above Barcelona. Started in 1981, this solera system uses Pansa Blanca (the local name for Xarel-lo) that's intentionally oxidized and aged in old barrels, developing incredible complexity over decades.
Rancio refers to the intentional oxidative character—think aged sherry but from still wine. This shows hazelnut, dried fig, caramel, and this wonderful savory, umami-rich quality. It's complex, intense, and utterly unique. The 375ml format is perfect given the wine's intensity.
Sip it with aged Manchego, foie gras, or dark chocolate. This is Catalan wine history in a glass.
