Chateau la Grolet is one of two amazing properties run by the Hubert family in Bordeaux. Based in the Cotes de Bourg (a right bank appellation about 15 miles north east of Fronsac) the Hubert family bought the property in 1997 and immediately began the arduous conversion to biodynamic farming across all 38 hectares of their vineyards, putting them well ahead of the curve in a trend that is just starting to take hold in Bordeaux in recent years. "Tete de Cuvee" means top wine or head wine and is generally used to describe the pinnacle of what an estate producers each year, with this bottle being no exception. It is roughly 85% Merlot with small dallops of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec from 50 year old estate farmed vines. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeast in stainless steel and the wine is then aged in New French oak for 1 years. Silky and supple with dark fruit and pronounced earthy flavors this has long been one of my favorite Bordeaux wines and is the perfect remedy for any who was too heavily influenced by the movie sideways! - Andy Paynter
