The Crotin family has been making Barbera in Asti since 1897, working the same hillside vineyards for five generations. La Martina is their estate Barbera from vines planted on calcareous clay soils that give the wine both richness and lift—the magic combination for great Barbera.

This is textbook Piedmontese Barbera: bright red cherry and plum with this beautiful savory edge of dried herbs and earth. The acidity is mouthwatering (as it should be with Barbera), the tannins are soft, and there's just enough structure to pair with food without overwhelming lighter dishes. It's aged in a mix of stainless steel and large neutral oak to preserve the fruit's freshness.

Chill it slightly and drink it with anything tomato-based, grilled sausages, or hard cheeses. This is everyday Piedmont in the best possible way.
