Bedrock Wine Co. founder Morgan Twain-Peterson literally grew up making wine. His Father is Joel Peterson, founder of Ravenswood Winery. Striking out on his own, Morgan started Bedrock in 2007 to explore the diversity of old heritage vineyard sites. In his own words, "Bedrock Wine Co. firmly believes in the philosophy that diversity is the spice of life. The wines I make are not limited to a single caste or single style. Rather, they reflect my own eclectic tastes and general feeling that a broad palate makes for more interesting gustatory experiences." Morgan is was the first winemaker to become earn the title Master of Wine, and founded The Historic Vineyard Society which is dedicated to saving, preserving and rehabilitating historic sites and promoting their viticulural diversity.
The Evangelho Vineyard Heritage wine is emblematic of the core mission for the team at Bedrock: Working with the old vineyards in California, many planted before prohibition, to make beautiful wines without adulteration. Equal parts history, preservation, and frankly deliciousness (which is totally a word). The Evangelho Vineyard was originally planted in a bank of pure sand back in 1896 by Portuguese farmers. It is comprised of a field blend of around 20 grape varieties, both red and white, with large portions of Zinfandel, Mataro, and Carignan. Evangelho has always been one of my favorite wines from Bedrock bold and rich but with undeniable elegance, it drinks quite well in its youth but can also age quite gracefully. wonderful wine and by any measure history in a bottle. - Andy Paynter
