Skouras "Megas Oenos", 2021

George Skouras is one of the most influential winemakers in Greece. As an early pioneer of modern winemaking in Greece, he helped establish the reputation for quality Greek wines in the international market. In meeting after meeting he was told that no one wanted to taste Greek wines because it was all retsina and grapes no one knew. So he created Megas Oenos and opened the world's eyes to a new era of Greek winemaking. George took the native grape Agiortiko which is known to make softer, medium bodied wines and blended it with Cabernet Sauvignon to bring more structure and to make the wine more marketable to international markets. The wine is today one of the most famous dry wines of Greece and is absolutely delicious. Juicy dark fruits on the palate are gilded by the generous use of oak, making this a perfect wine for both grilled meats and smoked barbecue.
