2020 Grifalco “Gricos” Aglianico del Vulture

Aglianico is undeniably one of Italy's greatest grapes and its relative obscurity in the US is such a shame. Often compared to Nebbiolo because of its propensity for fierce tannins and high acidity, Aglianico tends to diverge when it comes to flavor; think darker fruit and more musky floral tones with a good dose of spice that is often fleeting in Nebbiolo. Grifalco has emerged in recent years as one of the most talented producers of this wild southern Italian grape not least because of their ability to wrest elegance from Aglianico. Gricos is the entry level wine from this great estate and is anything but simple. This is perfect for everything from pizza to a roasted leg of lamb.
