For over 30 years, Madame May de Lencquesaing was the owner of the fabled Bordeaux Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac, and she is recognized worldwide as a tireless ambassador for Bordeaux. Struck by the tremendous potential of South Africa's terroir and the beauty of the country and its people, she has now turned her energy and attention to the Cape with the founding of Glenelly.
Lady May is Glenelly's flagship estate wine, named for Madame de Lencquesaing. The sculpture on the label depicts the Madame at 23 years old and was presented to her as a wedding gift. It is a left bank style Bordeaux blend, with 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot. It was ranked by Wine Enthusiast as one of the Top 100 Wines of 2020, it is quite simply one of the finest wines of Stellenbosch, which is sometimes referred to as the Napa Valley of South Africa, with its emphasize on lush spicy Cabernets.
