RIP to David Hirsch, a legend.
David Hirsch planted his Sonoma Coast vineyard in 1980, long before anyone believed this remote, foggy, wind-battered ridge could ripen Pinot Noir properly. He was right, and Hirsch Vineyards is now considered one of the most important sites on the true Sonoma Coast—the source of fruit for countless top producers, alongside their own estate bottlings. West Ridge is one of their distinct blocks.
This shows the extreme coastal character Hirsch is known for: red and blue fruit, dried herbs, and a briny, almost oceanic minerality with real structure and length. The cool site gives natural acidity and restraint that you don't find in warmer Pinot regions.
Pair it with salmon, duck, or mushroom dishes.
