Mouton-Rothschild is one of Bordeaux's five First Growths, famous both for its wine and for its tradition of commissioning a different artist to design the label each vintage—everyone from Picasso to Warhol has contributed. Baron Philippe de Rothschild spent decades campaigning for Mouton's 1973 promotion to First Growth status, the only change to the original 1855 Classification.

The 2016 vintage is considered one of the greatest modern Bordeaux vintages, and Mouton's version is spectacular: cassis, cedar, graphite, and violets with immense concentration and structure. The tannins are powerful but refined, built for decades of aging. This is Cabernet Sauvignon at its most opulent and precise.

This is a wine for serious cellaring or a truly special occasion. Decant generously and pair with dry-aged ribeye.
