Every year Suavia's Monte Carbonare is among our very favorite Italian whites. For decades Soave has made oceans of mass produced watery bottles of disappointment. But steadfast producers like Pieropan and Suavia have held the line and continue to produce beautiful, age worthy whites of structure and finesse from the native Garganega grape. Suavia's Monte Carbonare is a single cru in the hills of Soave perched on the black basalt soils of a dormant volcano. It smells of fresh citrus and flint in the rain and tastes ever so crisp and refreshing with just a slightly creamy roundness and a mineral finish.
