2021 Alfredo Maestro “El Rey del Glam”

Alfredo Maestro is one of the most exciting growers in Spain today.  Based in the Ribera del Duero he makes low intervention wines that break the mold of what to expect from this corner of Spain. Typical Duero wines tend to be rich and powerful, often with a fair amount of new oak and are some of the most sought after wines in Spain. Alfredo's wines are very different; he prizes elegance over extraction and is not afraid to experiment rather than play it safe. El Rey del Glam is a Garnacha made with carbonic maceration from two plots, one in Ribera del Duero and the other in the Sierra del Gredos. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this wine was bottled without added sulfites. El Rey del Glam is like a meeting between Spanish Garnacha and French Beaujolais; vibrant, juicy fruit with a nice dose of spice and super crunchy structure.  Great with a bit of a chill if that's your cup of tea! - Andy Paynter
