It all started in 2002 when Barnaby Tuttle was the wine buyer at Papa Haydn Restaurant in Portland. German wine importer Ewald Moseler showed him 14 different Rieslings from the Mosel region of Germany and Barnaby promptly bought all 14 and started one of the largest German wine lists in Portland. But then he knew that he had to quit his job and learn how to make that magic for himself. From that obsession grew Barnaby's winery Teutonic, which focuses almost entirely on German grape varietals, but with his own energetic spin.
“Oregon wine is out of the safe period,” he says. Amen to that and thank heavens.
Natural winemaking done right. The 2019 Muscat is a fruity aromatic delight that cries out for some spicy Thai or some salty prosciutto.
