Inaugural vintage and an Accent Exclusive in Ohio.
Max Ferd Richter is a institute of traditional Riesling growing. For 400 years, they have never produced a red wine....until now. In what can only be described as a mixed blessing, red grapes have begun creeping further and further North into the Mosel. Constantin, the 11th generation Richter winemaker, and an individual that sees the world from a different perspective, bought up a parcel of the Mulheimer Sonnenlay Vineyard, specifically to try to grow Pinot Noir. They found a small oxbow in the river that was warm enough, they brought clones from friends in Rheingau as well as Burgundy. Upon harvest in early September, 80% of the grapes were destemmed, a gentle pressing and 16 months in old French and German Oak barrels. The results have been impressive. Mosel Fine Wine Report recently gave it 91pts. Just over 100 cases of this wine were produced.
