And that is exactly what he wants, because it allows him to make the wines he wants to, working with whatever vineyard he wants to, making wines that can tell a story and invoke a sense of place at an affordable price. Charbono is one of the "forgotten" grapes of California, having been planted for a long time as a component in red blends. The nose is big and bold, with dark fruit and chocolate, and the palate enters that way, but finishes bright and fresh. Put a slight chill on this and enjoy with barbecue.
