Maquina Y Tabla is a small family winery started in 2012 by Oriol Illa and Susana Pastor in Castilla y Leon, Spain. They believe that a quality wine is a product of one's respect for the land and nature. This project started from scratch, traveling around the region looking for the oldest and most peculiar vineyards. Oriol manages the winemaking and Susana handles the business side of things.
El Oso & la Alemana is a result of taking a low cost flight to a festival in Berlin and craving a good wine to enjoy in a paper cup while listening to some live music. A blend of Malvasia and Verdejo, grown certified organic with some biodynamic techniques over sandy soils at high elevations in Toro. Harvested by hand, fermented with indigenous yeasts. Aged in barrel with bâtonnage for 6 months. Bottled unfined, slightly filtered, and no SO2. A fuller-bodied white that has both delicate aromatics and some creamy weight on the palate. One might call it a "red-wine-drinkers-white-wine" or a "winter white" wine for heavier dishes and colder temperatures.
