Calera is easily one of the best producers of Pinot Noir in California. Calera was founded in the 1970s by Josh Jensen, who after working at Domaine Romanée-Conti and Domaine Dujac in Burgundy, realized that limestone soils were the key to creating some of the best Pinot Noirs in the world. With that in mind Josh spent years looking for the perfect site to make his own wines until he finally found Mt Harlan in the Central Coast of California and in 1974 founded the Calera winery and planted vines. The Jensen vineyard is the original vineyard that he planted and is to this stay the most sought after of Calera wines. The wines produced from this vineyard and the all of the hard work that goes into the vineyards eventually garnered Josh and Calera the recognition by Wine & Spirits as one of the “Top 100 Wineries in the World” four times, with Robert Parker calling Calera “California’s Romanée-Conti.”
The 2017 Jensen Vineyard is exceptional, garnering 99 points from Jeb Dunnuck.
