Founded in 1998, Brooks is a biodynamic winery renowned for producing world-class Pinot Noir and Riesling. The story of the winery is at once both absolutely heartbreaking and heartwarming. It serves as the basis for the excellent wine documentary "American Wine Story".
The winery was founded by Jimi Brooks, who was recognized as one of Oregon wine's brightest rising stars. By 2004, Brooks went solo after years of working for larger wineries like Maysara and WillaKenzie Estate while producing his own wine on the side. Then, tragedy struck. Jimi Brooks died suddenly at age 38 of an aortic aneurysm. He left behind an 8 year old son, Pascal. It was also harvest time
A group of local winemakers banded together and finished the harvest and made the wine on his behalf. Jimi's sister, Janie Brooks Heuck, took over her brother's winemaking business and ran it on behalf of Pascal, commuting back and forth to Oregon from California where she lives with her own family. Jimi's friend Chris Williams took over winemaking for his friend and has been crafting superb wines.
In 2019, Brooks was named one of the Top 100 Wineries in the world by Wine & Spirits Magazine. Pascal is now 26.
The 2021 Amycas is a dry Alsatian-inspired white blend of 30% Pinot Gris, 24% Pinot Blanc, 16% Muscat, 15% Riesling, 15% Gewurtztraminer. With loads of lush tropical fruit notes, it is a perfect pairing with any sort of spicy food and is beautiful with a simple cheese plate.
