Established in 1970 by Dick and Nancy Ponzi, Ponzi Vineyards was instrumental in working together with some of the the first founding families to put the Willamette Valley on the map as a world-class wine region. Today, more than fifty years and two generations in, the founding spirit of Ponzi Vineyards is as alive as ever. Dick and Nancy's daughter Luisa took the reigns of winemaker from her father in 1993, after studying enology and viticulture in Burgundy, becoming the first American woman ever to receive her certificate in enology and viticulture in Beaune, France. More recently, Ponzi was largely responsible for creating one of Oregon's newest AVAs, Laurelwood District, which was approved in June, 2020. The Laurelwood District’s boundary is the predominance of a unique soil series recognized as Laurelwood, found on the north- and east-facing slope of the Chehalem Mountains.
